Mention it in a channel or send it a DM, and it inspects your schema, writes one focused query, runs it through the hosted Supabase MCP server, and replies with an aggregate answer in plain language instead of raw row dumps.","The agent is deliberately narrow: it exposes exactly two tools, supabase__list_tables for schema inspection and supabase__execute_sql for read-only SELECT queries. The MCP connection is pinned to read_only=true and features=database, a client-side allow list hides every other database tool, and the config loader rejects any attempt to set SUPABASE_DATA_ANALYST_READ_ONLY to false or request other feature groups at startup.","It is also scoped to one project by design. SUPABASE_DATA_ANALYST_PROJECT_REF is required whenever the MCP URL points at the hosted endpoint, so your account-level Supabase personal access token can never reach other projects in the account. That makes it a safe way to give a team self-serve analytics over a development or preview database."],"howItWorks":["A teammate mentions the agent in a Slack channel or DMs it; events arrive on the /eve/v1/slack route through a Vercel Connect Slack client identified by SUPABASE_DATA_ANALYST_SLACK_CONNECT_UID.","The model, zai/glm-5.2, uses eve's built-in connection_search to discover the Supabase MCP connection, where only list_tables and execute_sql are visible thanks to the tools.allow list in agent/connections/supabase.ts.","For unfamiliar tables it first calls supabase__list_tables to inspect the schema, and asks a clarifying question if the metric, time range, or grain is ambiguous.","It then writes a single read-only SQL query and runs it with supabase__execute_sql against the hosted server at https://mcp.supabase.com/mcp, authenticated with your Supabase personal access token and scoped by project_ref, read_only=true, and features=database.","It interprets the result for Slack, stating assumptions, filters, units, and date windows, and it never pastes API keys, service role keys, or access tokens into the channel even if a query returns them.","Two bundled evals enforce this contract: one checks the agent refuses migration requests and proposes a read-only alternative, the other checks it redacts a leaked API key when summarizing query results."],"useCases":[{"title":"Self-serve product metrics in Slack","body":"Let product managers ask questions like total signups by month for the last 6 months directly in a channel. It answers Slack\nmentions and DMs with schema inspection and read-only SQL through the hosted\nSupabase MCP server. The agent can only run read-only SQL queries: it exposes\njust `supabase__list_tables` and `supabase__execute_sql`, and nothing else.\n\n## Install\n\nInstall this registry item into an existing Eve app:\n\n```bash\nnpx shadcn@latest add @evex/supabase-data-analyst\n```\n\nThen install the public runtime dependencies listed by the registry item.\n\n## How it answers\n\nThe agent uses Eve's MCP client connection (`agent/connections/supabase.ts`) to\ntalk to the Supabase remote MCP server. The model discovers Supabase tools\nthrough the built-in `connection_search` and calls them by their qualified name.\n\nThis agent only runs read-only SQL queries. The only tools it exposes are:\n\n- `supabase__list_tables` — list tables in the database, for schema inspection.\n- `supabase__execute_sql` — run a read-only SQL query.\n\nNo other Supabase MCP tools are available. Write tools, migrations, Edge\nFunctions, branches, storage, logs, advisors, account management, project\nURL/key helpers, and docs search are all excluded.\n\nThe connection URL is built from env vars and always sets:\n\n- `project_ref` to scope the server to one Supabase project (required for the\n  hosted endpoint; optional only for a local Supabase CLI MCP server where the\n  project is implicit),\n- `read_only=true` so the server executes every query as a read-only Postgres\n  user,\n- `features=database` so the server only publishes the database tool group.\n\nA client-side `tools.allow` list in `agent/connections/supabase.ts` further\nrestricts discovery to `list_tables` and `execute_sql`, so even if the server\nadvertises other database tools (such as `apply_migration`, `list_extensions`,\n`list_migrations`) the model never sees them. `SUPABASE_DATA_ANALYST_READ_ONLY`\ncannot be set to `false` and `SUPABASE_DATA_ANALYST_FEATURES` only accepts\n`database`; the config loader rejects anything else at startup.\n`SUPABASE_DATA_ANALYST_PROJECT_REF` is required when\n`SUPABASE_DATA_ANALYST_MCP_URL` points at the hosted Supabase MCP server (or any\nnon-localhost host); without it the config loader fails startup because the\naccount-level access token would otherwise be able to reach every project in the\nSupabase account, breaking the single-project promise.\n\n## Start using it in Slack\n\nThis agent uses Eve's documented Slack channel path through Vercel Connect. Do\nnot create or manage `SLACK_BOT_TOKEN` or `SLACK_SIGNING_SECRET` variables.\n\nBefore connecting Slack, make sure the Eve app that installed this registry item\nis deployed on Vercel or otherwise reachable through HTTPS. Slack events must be\nable to reach the Eve Slack route:\n\n```text\n/eve/v1/slack\n```\n\nCreate the Slack Connect client from the Vercel project used by the Eve app:\n\n```bash\nnpm install -g vercel@latest\nvercel connect create slack --triggers\n```\n\nThis command is the Slack installation step. It creates the Vercel Connect\nconnector and opens the Slack authorization flow. Choose the Slack workspace\nwhere the agent should live and approve the app installation there. If the CLI\nprints an authorization URL instead of opening a browser, open that URL and\ncomplete the Slack install.\n\nAfter authorization succeeds, copy the UID printed by the command. Then attach\nthat Slack client to Eve's Slack route:\n\n```bash\nvercel connect detach <uid> --yes\nvercel connect attach <uid> --triggers --trigger-path /eve/v1/slack --yes\n```\n\nSet the same UID in the Eve app environment and redeploy the app:\n\n```env\nSUPABASE_DATA_ANALYST_SLACK_CONNECT_UID=<uid>\n```\n\nThe default UID used by the agent is `slack/supabase-data-analyst`.\n\nAfter the app is deployed:\n\n1. Open the same Slack workspace that you authorized during\n   `vercel connect create slack --triggers`.\n2. Find the Slack app that was installed during that authorization flow.\n3. Add the app to every channel where it should answer.\n4. In a channel, mention the app and ask a database question.\n5. In a DM, message the app directly.\n\nIf you cannot find the app in Slack, the Slack authorization step was not\ncompleted for that workspace. Run `vercel connect create slack --triggers`\nagain from the Vercel project, authorize the correct workspace, attach the new\nUID to `/eve/v1/slack`, update `SUPABASE_DATA_ANALYST_SLACK_CONNECT_UID`, and\nredeploy.\n\nGood first prompts:\n\n```text\nWhat tables are there in the database? Use the Supabase MCP tools.\n```\n\n```text\nShow total signups by month for the last 6 months.\n```\n\nIf the agent does not answer, verify:\n\n- `eve info --json` lists a Slack channel with `urlPath: \"/eve/v1/slack\"`;\n- `SUPABASE_DATA_ANALYST_SLACK_CONNECT_UID` exactly matches the Vercel Connect\n  UID;\n- the Connect trigger is attached with `--trigger-path /eve/v1/slack`;\n- the app was redeployed after setting env vars;\n- `SUPABASE_DATA_ANALYST_ACCESS_TOKEN` is a valid Supabase personal access\n  token;\n- `SUPABASE_DATA_ANALYST_PROJECT_REF` matches the project the token can access\n  and is set (the config loader fails startup if it is missing while\n  `SUPABASE_DATA_ANALYST_MCP_URL` points at the hosted endpoint).\n\n## Supabase setup\n\nThe agent talks to the hosted Supabase MCP server at\n`https://mcp.supabase.com/mcp`. It authenticates with a Supabase personal\naccess token (PAT) sent as `Authorization: Bearer <token>` on every MCP request.\n\n1. Do not connect the agent to production data. Supabase MCP is designed for\n   development and testing. Use a development project, a preview branch, or a\n   project with obfuscated data.\n2. In your Supabase account, generate a personal access token. Name it for this\n   agent, e.g. `Supabase Data Analyst MCP token`.\n3. Copy the target project's ref from the Supabase dashboard URL or project\n   settings.\n4. Set the runtime environment:\n\n```env\nSUPABASE_DATA_ANALYST_ACCESS_TOKEN=<supabase-pat>\nSUPABASE_DATA_ANALYST_PROJECT_REF=<project-ref>\nSUPABASE_DATA_ANALYST_READ_ONLY=true\nSUPABASE_DATA_ANALYST_FEATURES=database\nSUPABASE_DATA_ANALYST_MCP_URL=https://mcp.supabase.com/mcp\nSUPABASE_DATA_ANALYST_SLACK_CONNECT_UID=slack/supabase-data-analyst\n```\n\n`SUPABASE_DATA_ANALYST_PROJECT_REF` is required for the hosted Supabase MCP\nserver. It scopes the connection to a single project so the account-level PAT\ncannot reach other projects in the same Supabase account. The config loader\nfails startup if it is missing while `SUPABASE_DATA_ANALYST_MCP_URL` points at a\nnon-localhost host. It may be omitted only when\n`SUPABASE_DATA_ANALYST_MCP_URL` points at a local Supabase CLI MCP server\n(`http://localhost:54321/mcp`), where the project is implicit.\n\n`SUPABASE_DATA_ANALYST_READ_ONLY` must be `true` (the default). The config\nloader rejects `false` at startup because this agent only runs read-only SQL\nqueries.\n\n`SUPABASE_DATA_ANALYST_FEATURES` must be `database` (the default). The config\nloader rejects any other feature group, because every other group exposes\nnon-query operations (migrations, Edge Functions, branches, storage, logs,\nadvisors, account management, project URL/key helpers, docs search). Keeping\n`features=database` makes the Supabase MCP server publish only database tools,\nand the client-side `tools.allow` list in `agent/connections/supabase.ts`\nfurther narrows that to `list_tables` and `execute_sql`.\n\n`SUPABASE_DATA_ANALYST_MCP_URL` defaults to the hosted endpoint. Override it to\npoint at a local Supabase CLI MCP server (`http://localhost:54321/mcp`) during\nlocal development; in that case `SUPABASE_DATA_ANALYST_PROJECT_REF` may be\nomitted.\n\n## Runtime contract\n\nRead-only access can still expose sensitive data. Do not point this agent at a\nproject with PII unless the Slack workspace and channel audience are allowed to\nsee that data. The agent's instructions tell the model never to paste\npublishable keys, service role keys, or personal access tokens into Slack, even\nif a tool returns them.\n\nThe agent cannot write, migrate, deploy, branch, or configure anything. If a\nSlack request needs one of those operations, the agent says it cannot be done\nand proposes a read-only SQL alternative.\n"},{"path":".env.example","type":"registry:file","target":"~/.env.example","content":"SUPABASE_DATA_ANALYST_ACCESS_TOKEN=\nSUPABASE_DATA_ANALYST_PROJECT_REF=\nSUPABASE_DATA_ANALYST_READ_ONLY=true\nSUPABASE_DATA_ANALYST_FEATURES=database\nSUPABASE_DATA_ANALYST_MCP_URL=https://mcp.supabase.com/mcp\nSUPABASE_DATA_ANALYST_SLACK_CONNECT_UID=slack/supabase-data-analyst\n"}]}
